Travel & Logistics

We’re so excited to see you in Portugal! As part of your travel planning, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance that covers your booking for unforeseen events and interruptions of your trip. We also suggest purchasing refundable fights or flight protection.

Arrival in Lisbon

Be sure to set your clocks—in Portugal, you’re on Western European Time (WET), which is +8 hours ahead of Pacific Time, and +1 hour ahead of GMT / UTC.

Trip Start

Our adventure begins at 8:45am on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the H10 Duque de Loulé in Lisbon, Portugal. We recommend arriving on or before August 12 to ensure you’re at our starting point on time. For information on where to stay the night before our trip start, see the following Pre-Arrival Accommodations section.

Arrival Airport

The closest airport to our trip starting point is Lisbon’s Portela Airport (LIS)—about a 25-minute drive from our hotel.

Transfer from Airport

We recommend scheduling a private car through our hotel (contact them directly no more than 30 days in advance, and tell them you're traveling with Modern Adventure). Alternatively, it's easy to hail a taxi upon arrival at LIS airport. The taxi ride costs 20 - 22 euros and will take approximately 25 minutes to our hotel.

Pre-Arrival Accommodations

We stay in unique, in-demand hotels on this trip—rooms go fast and daily rates change frequently. If you plan to arrive in Lisbon prior to the beginning of our journey, we recommend staying at H10 Duque de Loulé (see Our Accommodations section), which is also our meeting spot on day one. Please contact the hotel directly to book, and let them know you will be on a trip with Modern Adventure and would like to extend your stay prior to the trip start. We will try to avoid unnecessary room changes, allowing you to stay in the same room from start to finish—however, please note that this is not always an option and room types vary and are subject to change.

If the H10 Duque de Loulé is booked, we also recommend Vintage Hotel & Spa and Memmo Alfama, two centrally located boutique hotels steps away from Lisbon's restaurants and shops.

Departure from Porto

We end our trip—after seven days of exploration, connection, and delicious food and drink!—in Porto at the Hotel Infante Sagres on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Departure Airport

The closest airport is Porto’s Francisco Sa Carnerio Airport (OPO)—about a 25-minute drive from the hotel. This is a different airport from the one we begin at, so make sure to book your outbound flights accordingly.

Transfer to Airport

After breakfast on our last day, Modern Adventure will provide a complimentary transfer to Porto’s OPO airport. If you would like to join this transfer, your flight home should be scheduled to depart from OPO at 12:30pm or later. If your flight leaves at an earlier time, or if you are planning on extending your time in Porto, you will be responsible for arranging alternative transportation.

Also note, if you plan to fly round-trip via Lisbon, it is your responsibility to book one of the many trains connecting Porto and Lisbon, departing every 45 minutes between 6am and 9:30pm. Plan on a 3-hour travel time.

Post-Trip Accommodations

We hope you have the opportunity to extend your stay in Porto. If so, we recommend staying at Hotel Infante Sagres (see Our Accommodations section). Please note that any post-trip accommodations are your responsibility to book, and reservations can be made directly by contacting the hotel.

If the Hotel Infantes Sagres is full, consider staying at A.S. 1829 Hotel or Maison Particulière, both well-located and full of charm.
