What To Expect

Our trips are designed to showcase the best of a destination and promote community, sharing and celebration. We thoughtfully curate all elements for an immersive and diverse experience—while leaving plenty of free time to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Often as we move around a region, traveling with the group is the only way to participate in the day’s activities. However, we always create the daily flow with a relaxed pace and flexibility in mind. We also try to maximize our time with a balance of early morning and evening activities—giving you the best experience possible.

The Portugal Experience

Get ready for seven amazing days in Portugal! We'll immerse ourselves in art and culture, community and cuisine. Our adventure features incredible walking and tuk-tuk tours, hands-on food experiences, wine making and tastings. We’ll be touring markets and taking boat rides, exploring wine cellars, learning about traditional Portugeuse tiles from local artists—with plenty of time to relax and enjoy our time together.

Savor | The best of Vinho Verde, Porto and award-winning Douro Valley wines

Connect | With ageless traditions in the kitchen, in fields and vineyards, in artist studios

Daily Flow

Our Modern Adventure to Portugal is well-paced and packs in so many incredible experiences—yet it’s not without leisure time to explore the region yourself, or simply to unwind and relax. While our activities each day will vary, the cadence remains about the same, with most days starting between 8:30 and 9am, and finishing around 4pm, then reconvening for dinner around 7pm.

You will have the following days and times at your leisure, where you can explore, dine where you wish, and enjoy Portugal on your own. If you would like to make reservations for a specific restaurant, use the following days and approximate times as a guide:

  • Day 3, in the evening in Douro Valley

  • Day 4, in the evening in Douro Valley

If you'd like to make a reservation in the Douro Valley prior to departure, we recommend the following restaurants:

  • The Vintage House Restaurante

  • Veladouro

  • Castas & Pratos

  • Quinta da Pacheca

  • Six Senses Restaurant

  • Largo do Paço - Casa da Calçada

Food & Drink

Our trips feature a range of dining experiences, designed to showcase the breadth and local flavors of the places we visit. In Portugal that means everything from hands-on cooking experiences to exquisite wine tastings to decadent meals prepared by local chefs. We'll visit local cafes, tascas (taverns), and colorful food markets. And we’ll sample an array of local dishes—roast suckling pig, bacalhau (cod), Bulhão Pato-style clams, the freshest seafood—and local ports and wines.

All meals (except for those during your free time) are covered in the cost of your experience. Select beer, wine and spirits will be served with every group meal. If you’d prefer not to drink, that’s fine too!

Special Dietary Needs

Traveling with dietary restrictions or allergies can be a challenge, but we’re here to help. Prior to your departure, we’ll send you a questionnaire where you can inform us of any special dietary needs you have. Depending on the information you give us, we will work with our in-country partners to adjust menus and be aware of allergies and restrictions on our trip. We kindly request that any changes to our menu are based on need rather than preference, as we work very hard to curate an exceptional dining experience that is difficult to change.

Traveling as a Group

Group travel is an intimate, empowering and fun way to learn about yourself and others. Like any good relationship, it thrives with respect. We ask that every guest honors the key times in a day to ensure everyone's experience is the absolute best it can be. This is everyone's adventure! We also appreciate that time is precious. Every trip incorporates a mix of guided and free time for optimal exploration. But if you’re looking for more time on your own, please let your trip leader know and they can advise the best times to do this.
